President’s Rule amid ethnic unrest in Manipur

President’s Rule was imposed in Manipur following the resignation of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, amid ongoing ethnic violence. The state has experienced a fresh wave of unrest, with reports of abandoned Meitei houses in Tronglaobi being burnt down, pointing to actions by Kuki militants.

Despite the implementation of central governance, local communities express dissatisfaction over the handling of security issues and the apparent lack of immediate central force intervention.

This is the first President’s rule imposed by Modi government.
