New Fastag rules are in force

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has promulgated new FASTag regulations effective February 17.

The NPCI states that FASTag payments will be validated within a specified timeframe upon scanning the tag at a toll plaza. The new regulations intend to mitigate fraud and enhance toll payment efficiency.

Below is a compilation of the new FASTag regulations.

  1. Transactions will be rejected if a FASTag is blacklisted for over 60 minutes prior to arriving at a toll plaza.
  2. Vehicle owners are now afforded a 70-minute grace period to recharge their FASTag following its blacklisting.
  3. Banks may only initiate chargebacks for erroneous deductions following a 15-day cooling-off period.
  4. Payments executed more than 15 minutes after traversing a toll will incur additional fees for the FASTag user.
  5. Vehicle owners will incur a toll fee that is double the standard amount if their FASTag is blacklisted.
  6. Users may qualify for a penalty refund if they recharge their FASTag within 10 minutes of a transaction attempt.

A FASTag is rendered inoperative when

  • Your account balance is insufficient.
  • Obsolete documentation
  • Legal matters pertaining to your automobile
  • Penalty dues remain unsettled
  • Strategies to Prevent FASTag Complications

The government said users must update the KYC details of their linked bank accounts to prevent transaction complications or penalties.
