While the Congress government and some social media handles have labeled the BRS meeting in Warangal a “flop show,” their actions tell a different story. Just a day after KCR appealed to the Union Government to halt Operation Kagar against the Maoists and urged them to initiate peace talks, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy suddenly met senior Congress leader Jana Reddy.

According to a statement from the Telangana CMO, the Chief Minister met Jana Reddy along with Keshava Rao to discuss the way forward regarding peace talks. The statement highlighted that Jana Reddy’s past experience in negotiations with Maoists made his input valuable. Criticizing the government’s use of force, KCR had earlier urged the public to show support for his appeal through applause during his fiery speech.

The CMO’s statement

“Following the Peace Talks Committee’s appeal to the Central Government to initiate dialogue with the Maoists, the Chief Minister met with Jana Reddy, who has prior experience negotiating with the Naxalites.

Justice Chandra Kumar, Prof. Haragopal, and several other representatives from the Peace Talks Committee also met the Chief Minister and submitted a memorandum urging the government to pursue talks with the Maoists. They emphasized the need to consult the Central Government on the matter.

Subsequently, the Chief Minister held discussions with Jana Reddy and Keshav Rao on how to advance the peace process, acknowledging that Naxalism must be addressed from a broader social perspective.”

After effects

It is evident that the sudden meeting with Jana Reddy is a direct fallout of the roaring success of the BRS meeting in Warangal. KCR’s fiery speech appears to have shaken the Congress ministers and Chief Minister, forcing them to reconsider their stance and temper their arrogance.
