Tamil superstar-turned-politician Vijay, founder of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), is likely to contest from a constituency in Ramanathapuram district in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

Although the elections are still a year away, TVK has already begun groundwork, conducting surveys across multiple constituencies to gauge its electoral prospects.

Sources within the party suggest that Vijay is considering Ramanathapuram due to its large coastal and fishing community population. The actor-politician has been vocal about fishermen’s issues, frequently addressing public gatherings on their plight.

Prashant Kishor’s strategy

At a rally in Nagapattinam, Vijay strongly criticized both the ruling DMK and the NDA government for their inaction regarding the frequent arrests of Tamil fishermen by the Sri Lankan Navy.

Vijay’s electoral strategy is reportedly being shaped by election strategist Prashant Kishor, who currently serves as an advisor to TVK. Kishor also attended the party’s first-anniversary celebrations in Kancheepuram, signalling his active involvement in shaping TVK’s campaign.

Vijay officially launched TVK on February 2, 2024, positioning it as a party that stands against corruption and divisive politics. Though he chose not to contest the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, he has confirmed TVK’s participation in the 2026 Assembly polls.

C-Team of BJP

At the Vikravandi rally, Vijay launched scathing attacks on both the DMK and BJP, branding the DMK as his political adversary and the BJP as his ideological opponent. He accused the DMK of being a dynastic party exploiting the Dravidian movement for personal gain while condemning the BJP’s divisive politics.

In response, the DMK dismissed his allegations, with senior leaders accusing TVK of indirectly aiding the BJP. Some even labeled TVK as the “C team” of the BJP, attempting to downplay its potential impact.

As TVK gains traction, all eyes are now on Vijay’s next move—will his star power translate into political success? The 2026 elections will be the ultimate test.
