In a major setback for the ruling Congress, BJP’s Chinnamalai Anji Reddy won from the Karimnagar-Medak-Adilabad-Nizamabad MLC Graduates constituency. The BJP has bagged two MLC seats in the polls held on February 27.
Congress candidate V. Narender Reddy was in tears after the results were announced. Narender Reddy owns educational institutes named “Alphores” in Telangana. He is a big-shot educationist and spent crores of rupees for these elections.
Narender Reddy allegedly distributed money for voters two times higher than other candidates, but still he lost. The ruling Congress government in the state, led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, extensively campaigned for Narender Reddy and employed all available resources to secure his victory. Still, the “Alphores” v. Narender Reddy lost to the BJP candidate.
North Telangana’s political landscape earlier was dominated by the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (now BRS), but now the BJP is eclipsing it. It had already won major MP seats in North Telangana, and with two MLC seats, it has become a formidable force.
