Singer Kalpana Raghavendar, also known as Kalpana, is currently receiving treatment on a ventilator. According to the latest updates, her condition is stable but critical, and she continues to be under medical observation.
On Tuesday (March 4), she attempted suicide at her residence in Nizampet, Hyderabad.
After consuming a large quantity of sleeping pills, police found Kalpana unconscious in her duplex home. The situation came to light when neighbors and apartment security grew suspicious after her house remained locked for two days, an unusual occurrence.
Concerned for her safety, the residents alerted the KPHB police.
Police arrived promptly, forced entry by breaking the kitchen door, and discovered Kalpana in a critical state in her upstairs bedroom. The house was described as dark, with all lights turned off, adding to the urgency of the rescue. She was immediately rushed to Holistic Hospital in Nizampet in Hyderabad, where she was placed on ventilator support.
The reasons behind Kalpana’s suicide attempt remain unclear, leaving fans and authorities speculating. Police have initiated an investigation, booking a case to determine the circumstances.
The versatile vocalist with over 1,500 songs across Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and other languages has some issues in her personal life.
In a past interview, Kalpana had openly discussed contemplating suicide after her divorce, citing the challenges of raising three children alone. While it’s uncertain if similar struggles contributed to this attempt, her candidness about mental health struggles has resurfaced in public discourse.
Her husband lives in Chennai.
Singers Sunitha, Srikrishna, Geetha Madhuri, and Karunya visited the hospital to inquire about her condition.
