Pooja Hegde is starring as the female lead opposite Suriya in filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj’s much-anticipated film “Retro,” which is slated for release on May 1, 2025. The film has generated immense buzz, and Pooja’s involvement has only heightened the excitement surrounding the project.

What sets “Retro” apart for Pooja Hegde is her dedication to perfecting her role. The team revealed that she not only worked extensively to bring authenticity to her character but also took the extra step of learning Tamil to dub her voice.

This marks a significant milestone in her career, as despite having previously acted in three Tamil films—including Vijay’s Beast—this is the first time she has lent her voice for dubbing in Tamil.

A multilingual talent, Pooja is fluent in Hindi and Kannada and has already impressed audiences by dubbing in Telugu for blockbuster films like Aravinda Sametha and Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo. However, her decision to dub in Tamil for “Retro” showcases her commitment to her craft and her determination to connect more deeply with Tamil audiences.

The Retro team is thrilled with her effort and dedication, praising her willingness to push boundaries and deliver an authentic performance. With her hard work and linguistic skills, Pooja Hegde is proving once again why she remains one of the most sought-after actresses in Indian cinema.

Contrary to rumors, she is not playing the role of a mute girl in the film.

Here’s what team “Retro” wrote about her:

When director Karthik Subbaraj was searching for a heroine, multiple names were suggested, but it was Pooja Hegde who caught everyone’s attention. After seeing her, Pandiyaa himself confirmed, “This is the girl we’ve been looking for!”

The only concern was whether she could deliver dialogues fluently in Tamil. But Pooja, known for taking on challenges since her childhood, confidently assured the team that she would overcome this too.

After an impressive look test, she began her daily Tamil training and surprised everyone by delivering even lengthy monologue sequences flawlessly. There were plenty of fun moments on set, with the team confusing her with tougher Tamil words. And here’s the big news  Pooja Hegde is dubbing in her own voice for the first time in a regional tamil film. Her dedication and hard work has truly paid off. Can’t wait to witness this on the big screen!”
