NTR has set the internet ablaze with thrilling updates on Devara: Part 2 during his promotional tour in Japan for the first installment’s release. Addressing an electrified audience of fans and media, the RRR star dismissed swirling rumors of the sequel’s cancellation, confirming that production is slated to begin next year. Promising an even grander spectacle, he teased an ambitious follow-up to the 2024 blockbuster.

NTR’s statement in Tokyo

NTR, who arrived in Japan on March 22 to promote Devara: Part 1 ahead of its March 28 theatrical debut in the country, shared crucial insights during a fan interaction event in Tokyo.

“We’re starting Devara 2 next year,” he announced, drawing thunderous applause. “It’s going to be bigger, better, and something that will blow your minds. We’ve heard the rumors—let me be clear, they’re absolutely false. We are working hard to create an unforgettable cinematic experience.”

His statement comes as a relief to fans who had grown anxious after Devara: Part 1 received mixed reviews following its OTT release on Netflix in November 2024. Despite its box office success, director Koratala Siva’s storytelling had drawn some criticism, sparking speculation that the sequel might be shelved. NTR’s emphatic reassurance now puts those doubts to rest, reaffirming his commitment to the franchise, which he co-produces alongside his brother Nandamuri Kalyan Ram under NTR Arts and Yuvasudha Arts.

A grand vision for Devara 2

During the Tokyo event, NTR elaborated on the creative vision for the sequel, hinting at an elevated scale. “We’ve already shot a few sequences for Devara 2, but we’re taking our time to craft something truly extraordinary. After the love you’ve shown for Part 1, we owe it to you to make the second installment even more exhilarating,” he said, standing alongside director Koratala Siva, who nodded in agreement. Expressing gratitude for the Japanese audience’s overwhelming reception, NTR added, “Your energy inspires us to push the boundaries even further.”

Successful Japan trip

NTR’s Japan tour has been nothing short of a triumph. Devara: Part 1 has reportedly grossed 11.1 million yen within its first two days, setting new records for an Indian film in the country.

Fans thronged the promotional events, with one devoted admirer even presenting NTR with a book she had written in Telugu—after learning the language through RRR—a moment that visibly moved the star. His personal engagement with fans, including an impromptu dance to the hit song Ayudha Pooja, has only intensified anticipation for the franchise’s future.
